This short weird ep has much to offer. The bookend track sound like movie soundtrack. The songs in between are more weird. Maybe remind a bit to Sophie.
Bryony Jarman-Pinto – Fish Factory Sessions EP
A smoth voice and fun drums is all a song needs to win my heart. The added floots in Sun Kissed make it an instant favorite.
Meridian Brothers – Cumbia Siglo XXI
Wow, this album is so much fun.
Asher Gamadze – Dialectic Soul (2020)
Great combination of free jazz and south African protest music.
Lucrecia Dalt – No era sólida (2020)
There is good and bad electroacoustic. This is good electroacoustic
Mads Emil Nielsen / Nicola Ratti – Framework 3 (2020)
There is good and bad glitch experimental. This is good glitch experimental
Deerhoof – Love-Lore (2020)

Coreyah – Clap & Applause (2020)
Psychedelic folk music from Korea. Real treat for the ears.
Azymuth, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Adrian Younge – Azymuth JID004 (2020)
The Jazz Is Dead series is back with one of my favorite bands. Maybe not a spectacular album, but definitely a fun one to spin.
Surprise Chef – Daylight Savings (2020)
Melbourne grooves are back with another strong album. No weak track, just 100% crunchy vibes.
Achim Funk – Flava Queen (2016/1993)
German DJ’s take on Queen Latifah’s 1993 song Black Hand Side. The boom is deep and the bap slaps on this beat.
Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, 9th Wonder – Dinner Party (2020)

Eartheater – Phoenix: Flames Are Dew Upon My Skin (2020)
Experimental folk music, written and produced by the singer herself (with the guitar and piano performed by her as well). This thirteen-track album is fleshed out with melancholic melodies, deep and powerful orchestral tones, and abstract electroacoustics. Eartheater just doing her thang.
Huw Marc Bennett – Glas (2020)
Very smoth album with just a sprinkling of modern library muzackz.
Jimena Angel – Aire (2020)
This tropical pop-rock EP was inspired by the natural landscape of Colombia, and it is full of awesome sounds.
Nemanja – Cosmic Disco (2020)
A fusion of world music sounds from Croatia.
Ill Considered – Meditation (2020)
The London-based jazz quartet Ill Considered doing their thang.
Babeheaven – Friday Sky (2016)
Dream pop. Silky vocals provided by Nancy.
NxxxxxS – In the Cut (2019)
Left field hip hop hop/trap/vapor beats.
Les Baxter – Exotic Jungle Sounds from Les Baxter (2020)
As the resident exotica guy, I figured I should comment on the “new” Les Baxter album. This one kinda perplexes me, and I can’t find any info about a release by this name. As it turns out, the track listing and recordings are identical to Les Baxter’s Jungle Jazz, from 1959. (But in a much more attractive package. And side A has been swapped with side B. Tricky!) With the help of Plas Johnson on tenor sax and alto flute, Baxter “captured the teeming, steaming excitement of South America’s jungles in twelve of his original compositions.” I’ve never come across a big band with a full strings and horns section in the jungle, but then again I haven’t been to many jungles, so what do I know? Nevertheless, I found this album very enjoyable. It’s big, dramatic exotica.

Soulful, groovy, and percussive
Chicha Libre – ¡Sonido Amazonico! (2008)
Contemporary Chicha music from Brooklyn. Peruvian music with Cumbia rhythms, surf guitar, and Amazonian melodies. Lots of covers of classic music from classical times to the 70’s. Also popcorn.
King Sunny Adé – Juju Music (1982)
After 20 of making hit Juju records, the king of the genre made his major label debut on Island Records. Island was looking for it’s next top artist after the passing Bob Marley, and looked to King Sunny Adé to fill that role. Juju is a offshoot of traditional Nigerian music, but often played with western instruments. The grooves in here are inescapable. This may be one of my favorite albums I’ve found in the past few years.
Ginger Root – Rikki (2020)
I have been a fan of their low volume funky dream pop for a long time now. I highly anticipated this record and I must say – it does not disappoint. Also check out the music video for out of state!
Sélène Saint-Aimé – Mare Undarum (2020)
The debut album of the Paris-based afro-french composer, bassist and singer, who actually got to study with the legendary Ron Carter. It’s a very spiritual and serene jazz record that leans into avant-garde. I can’t help but draw comparisons to Esperanza Spalding, but the two are quite different in style and, of course, heritage.
Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles – Art Of Love (Love in LA) (2020)
Cory Henry shouldn’t be a stranger to anyone at this point. This live performance just funking slaps. Nothing more to add.
